Evaluating applications for Collaborative Innovation: A Guide for Committee Members

As a committee member tasked with assessing applications on the SoScience platform, your role is pivotal in shaping the collaborative ecosystem of innovation. Unlike traditional selection processes, our approach emphasizes the potential for synergy among participants. Here's how to ensure your assessments align with fostering responsible and diverse collaborations.

1. Considering Collaborative Potential

When evaluating an application, think beyond the merits of the individual proposal. Consider how the applicant's skills, expertise, and project idea could complement other submissions. Our goal is to cultivate an environment where diverse participants can collaborate effectively, leading to innovations that are greater than the sum of their parts.

2. Diversity and the Quadruple Helix

Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles underline the importance of integrating a diverse range of perspectives. Ensure your assessments reflect the quadruple helix model, comprising academia, industry, government, and civil society. A balanced mix of these perspectives will enrich the collaborative process and enhance the potential for groundbreaking solutions.

3. Broadening the Definition of Innovation

Keep an open mind about what constitutes innovation. Contribution idea with technological or scientific foundations are valuable, but so are initiatives focusing on social or environmental change, including novel processes or usages. This inclusive approach ensures we don't overlook projects with the potential to make significant impacts in unconventional ways.

4. Valuing Partial Solutions

Our platform is a breeding ground for collaborative solution-building. A project doesn't need to present a complete answer to be considered valuable. Proposals that offer part of a solution can become integral to a larger, cooperative effort. When assessing applications, consider the potential for integration and complementarity between projects.

Your assessments are crucial in building a diverse, collaborative community of innovators. By keeping these principles in mind, you'll help us foster an environment where participants can come together to create sustainable, inclusive solutions to complex challenges.
